Day 2

«Kukul Mountain range»

After breakfast, we head out for the exploration of Kukul mountain range. Our trail follows an old border. Before II World War, this territory was owned by Poland and Czechoslovakia. Nowadays you can still find here old border pillars, which were made of stone and installed in 1920.

West slopes of the mountain range Kukul covered with alpine meadows, which locals call “polonyny”. Our next stop is “kolyba” (typical Carpathian shepherd's hut). During the summer months when the cows, sheep and horses are in the alpine meadow, the shepherds live here. They make open fireplace in kolyba and the fire is kindled right in the middle of the floor, with smoke escaping through the hole in the roof. Shepherds use a big cauldron for cooking, boiling milk and making traditional Carpathian cheese: brynza, vurda and budz. After visiting kolyba and cheese tasting our trail ascend to the summit of Mount Kukul 1539m.  On the top, the group will get short rest enjoying beautiful mountain scenery. After that, we continue on following the tourist path to our next campsite, which is on the Foreshchanka River.
