Chyvchyn Mountains – mountain range in the southeastern part of the Ukrainian Carpathians. These mountains are uninhabited and covered with old pine trees and meadows. On this trip, we’ll enjoy the stunning scenery and real wilderness. The highlights of our trip: Burkut – the old (XIX century) mineral water resort; breathtaking views of Ukrainian and Romanian Carpathians; the highest summit of the mountain range – Mt. Chyvchyn 1766m; mountain river Chornyi Cheremosh and Dukonskyi Monastery.
Day 1 Burkut
In the morning, you will meet your guides and the rest of the group at the railway station (main entrance) in Ivano-Frankivsk. There we will get a bus shuttle to the starting point of the hiking tour - mountain village Shybene. Our trail runs along the state border, between Ukraine and Romania. To travel in this area we need to get special permission. Before we start the hike, we need to register our group with border security service. It's required to have ID (Passport) with you! Only after registration, we can start our trip. The trail runs along the mountain river Chornyi Cheremosh to the campsite in Burkut, where we’ll spend the first night. In the past, Burkut was very popular mineral water resort. Today it almost destroyed, but mineral water spring is still there. So, you will get a chance to taste Carpathians healthy water.
Day 2 First ascending
After breakfast, we start to explore Chyvchyn Mountains. The trail leads up to the mountain range. Our next stop for the night will be nice meadow, which offers fantastic views. From our campsite opens beautiful scenery of Chyvchyn and the highest mountain range of Ukraine – Chornohora. In the evening, we spend time sitting around the fireplace, enjoying delicious dinner and friendly atmosphere.
Day 3 Along the border
After breakfast, we head out for the exploration of the wild Carpathian region. From the camp, the trail leads us along the state border between Ukraine and Romania. In clear weather, we can enjoy outstanding views of Ukrainian and Romanian Carpathians. During the day, our team will ascend three amazing mountains: Borshutyn 1570 meters high, Velyka Budyiovska 1678m and Kukulyk 1581m. After long day hiking we get to the picturesque alpine meadow in the foot of Mt. Chyvchyn. Here we set up the camp for tonight.
Day 4 Mt. Chyvchyn
This will be relatively lighter day. From the campsite, our spectacular journey begins with hike up to the top of Mt.Chyvchyn, 1766 meters high, which is the highest mountain of the range. Its summit is a perfect viewpoint as you can observe hundreds of kilometers around. Romanian Carpathians, Marmarosh and Chornohora mountains will give us unforgettable scenery. After descending, the group will have enough free time to walk around, take some pictures and get rest.
Day 5 Black Cheremosh River & Dukonskyi Monastery
Today we will say goodbye to Chyvchyn mountain range and leave on a track to a Black Cheremosh River valley. This is truly wild area with old pine forests and amazing nature. First, we hike along the river, few times we’ll need to cross it and after the path rises heavily for a couple of kilometers up to the top of Hryniava mountain range to Dukonskyi Monastery (1500 meters above sea level). Overnight stay in the campsite next to the monastery.
Day 6 Departure
Our final day on this backpacking trip consists of a 12 km hike down to a lovely mountain village Probiynivka. Here the group takes a transfer back to Ivano-Frankivsk, where we’ll say bye to each other and you’ll continue your trip home or to the next destination.
Arriving time to Ivano-Frankivsk – 6 pm.
Our trail runs along the state border, between Ukraine and Romania. That is why it's required to have ID (Passport) with you! Otherwise, we’ll not get special permission to hike in this area.
